Job Purpose
The School Counselor is responsible for supporting students in their academic progress, social and personal development, and emotional well-being. The role involves providing individual and group counseling, advising on academic performance, and collaborating with teachers, parents, and school leadership to promote a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing individual and group counseling sessions to address students’ academic, emotional, social, and behavioral needs.
- Supporting students in navigating personal challenges such as stress, anxiety, peer relationships, and self-esteem to build resilience and positive coping strategies.
- Developing appropriate action plans to students requiring additional academic support by working closely with the Academic Quality Controller and the Student Life Coordinator, while guiding students in goal setting, improving study skills, and adopting effective learning strategies to enhance performance and engagement.
- Maintaining accurate, up-to-date, and confidential student counseling records in accordance with school policies and professional standards.
- Assisting and mentoring students during key transitions periods, including moving between grade levels, transferring schools, and preparing for post-secondary education and career pathways.
- Collaborating closely with teachers, school leadership, and parents to strengthen community engagement through participation in school events, sharing relevant insights, and supporting students’ overall development and well-being.
- Designing, implementing, and supporting school-wide bullying prevention initiatives, including awareness programs, early intervention strategies, and collaboration with staff, students, and parents to promote a safe and respectful learning environment
- Contributing to staff support and development by sharing insights, providing guidance on student well-being and behavior management, and promoting a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive working environment.
- Participating actively in administrative and child protection meetings by providing professional observations and informed recommendations.
- Designing, implementing, and delivering counseling workshops and programs focused on social-emotional learning, mental health awareness, bullying prevention, and essential life skills.
- Promoting and maintaining adherence to school policies and processes related to child protection and safeguarding.
- Identifying, documenting, and reporting concerns related to student safety and well-being, following established protocols.
- Performing other related tasks and projects as assigned by the SABIS® management.
Ideal Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Education, or their equivalent
- Master’s Degree is a plus
- English Proficient; Knowledge of the local language is a plus
- Teaching certificate is a plus
- Previous experience in a school or educational setting; SABIS® experience is a plus
